To wire your solar panels in series, simply link the positive MC4 connector of the first solar panel to the negative MC4 connector of the next one, and continue this pattern for the remaining panels.
Wiring solar panels in series is arguably the easiest of the three methods. In series wiring, the positive of one panel connects to the negative of the next, and so on. This creates a string of panels with a negative wire at the beginning and a positive wire at the end. However, wiring in series is not always as straightforward as it seems.
The lower the threshold voltage, the lower the dissipation of solar power on the diode. If we have two or more solar panels with the same voltage but with different current, it is NOT possible to wire them in series. Nonetheless it is possible to wire them in parallel.
We start by wiring two sets of panels in series. Then, we combine these two sets in parallel. In this configuration, we're adding up both our voltages and our currents. We expect to see a total voltage of around 90 volts (45V each from two panels in series), and our currents add up as well.
For example, if wiring 3 solar panels in parallel, use a pair of 3 to 1 branch connectors. And if wiring 4 solar panels in parallel, use 4 to 1 branch connectors. Take the positive terminal of the first solar panel and connect it to the negative terminal of the second solar panel. Repeat the process, connecting the positive terminal of each panel to the negative terminal of the next panel, until all panels are connected in a chain.
